Pro-Nox® & Topical Numbing

Patient-Led Pain and Anxiety Management for Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and the Main Line

Patients typically tolerate most skin rejuvenation treatments well, but some regimens produce a bit of discomfort. Certain people also struggle with anxiety related to any medical procedure—especially those that involve injections. This is why Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa introduced PRO-NOX® to the Philadelphia-area practice serving Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Main Line, and more. While traditional pain- and anxietymanagement strategies are administered by a doctor or other medical professional, PRO-NOX® puts control in the patient’s hand.

The PRO-NOX® device delivers a 50/50 mix of oxygen and nitrous oxide, inhaled at a patient’s discretion. The system consists of a tube that can be brought to the mouth at will, allowing each person to determine when the calming gas is needed, and how much will be used. Once in the body, the mixture dulls senses and lowers anxiety. After a treatment is over and the device is shut off, the oxygen/nitrous oxide blend quickly leaves the body. Many people find this is ideal, as they can drive themselves to and from appointments without concern of mental impairment.

Topical numbing is also available to reduce sensation in the skin, making injections and other treatments more comfortable. Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa uses EMLA cream, which contains both lidocaine and prilocaine. This prescription medication is applied directly to the skin and provides temporary numbing.
