Restylane® and Hyaluronic Acid

The key active ingredient in all of the Restylane® fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is an organic molecule the body makes naturally to keep joints lubricated and skin hydrated. A carbohydrate, hyaluronic acid is especially good at attracting and holding onto water molecules. Hyaluronic acid thus helps to keep the skin moist and pliable.

The problem with hyaluronic acid is that it breaks down and has to be replaced. While this natural process runs smoothly throughout your youth, age causes its production to gradually slow, until hyaluronic acid is breaking down faster than it is being replaced. Furthermore, environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, pollution, and smoking speed up the destruction of hyaluronic acid.

Fewer hyaluronic acid molecules in the skin decrease its ability to hold onto water, causing the skin to lose moisture and become less pliable. Unfortunately, the same decreased production and increased breakdown occur simultaneously with collagen, which is a protein that contributes to volume in the skin and gives it a flexible structure. Collagen also creates a “home” for hyaluronic acid, making the two a closely linked pair that together keep wrinkles and lines minimized. The loss of these molecules adds up to visible signs of aging: wrinkles and folds, facial hollows, and thinning lips.

The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is made to act similarly to hyaluronic acid made by the body. When injected into areas of the face where signs of aging are most apparent, it restores volume and increases hydration, which leads to a more youthful look.

Cosmetic Dermatology

Meet Dr. Cirillo & Our
Licensed Aesthetic Providers

Led by board-certified dermatologist Victoria A. Cirillo-Hyland, M.D., our certified PA-Cs, licensed registered nurses, and skin care therapists provide comprehensive aesthetic skin rejuvenation to help our clients look and feel 10 years younger.

Why Are There Different Formulations of Restylane®?

All Restylane® fillers are made with hyaluronic acid. However, each filler has its unique properties to match the unique characteristics of the face. Some areas of the face require lifting to restore a natural look. Other areas of the face require filling to soften the signs of aging. Galderma has created its Restylane® family to reflect these different needs.

Cirillo Cosmetic’s board-certified dermatologists and medical team have extensive experience with dermal fillers, including the Restylane® family of fillers. Their extensive knowledge of the many filler options allows them to prepare a unique treatment plan tailored to each patient’s needs.

Each member of the Restylane® family is approved by the FDA for its respective use. Years of scientific research, study, development, and clinical trials have gone into each filler to ensure that both safety and cosmetic results are maximized. Choosing an experienced and talented medical injector is imperative to achieving safe and effective results.
Restylane®

Restylane®

This filler is designed to smooth out nasolabial folds (also known as “parentheses”) and moderate to severe lines that form on the face. It can also be used to add volume to thin lips in patients that are 21 or older. Studies have shown that the results of a Restylane® injection can last up to one year.

Restylane® Contour

As we age and lose volume in the midface, we also lose definition in the cheeks. Restylane Contour is the only cheek filler with XpresHAn Technology that restores your natural contour, frees dynamic expression, and refreshes your look. Balancing the science and art of aesthetics, this unique injectable hyaluronic acid gel creates natural-looking, subtly rejuvenated cheeks that are reminiscent of your younger self, but true to what makes you beautiful today.

Restylane® Defyne

Restylane® Defyne is formulated to fill in deeper nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Similar to other fillers in the Restylane® family, Defyne is made with XpresHAn Technology™, which cross links hyaluronic acid molecules of different weights to make a gel that is smooth and sturdy.

Restylane® Kysse

Lips lose volume, color, and elasticity with age. Restylane Kysse is a lip filler that adds volume, smooths upper lip lines for up to one year, and enhances lip color. Designed specifically for the movement of lips, Restylane Kysse is made with XpresHAn Technology’s innovative cross-linking gel for precise, natural-looking results.

Restylane® Lyft

The face is not the only area where signs of aging appear. Loss of hyaluronic acid in the hands leads to aged deflation revealing prominent tendons and veins. Lyft was the first and only hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler to be approved by the FDA for use in both the face and hands. Lyft can be used in the same treatment session to restore volume and lift to your cheeks and volume to your hands.

Restylane® Silk

Thin lips may be the result of genetics, the natural process of aging, and environmental exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Restylane® Silk is made to restore flexible volume to the lips and to smooth out fine vertical lip lines in patients who are 21 or older. Silk is made with smaller particles to achieve these results.

Restylane® Refyne

Retention of skin moisture with hyaluronic acid is necessary to maintain the skin’s natural elasticity. Restylane® Refyne restores decreased hyaluronic acid levels in the nasolabial folds and marionette lines, resulting in a soft, flexible, natural appearance.

Options Beyond Restylane® in Bryn Mawr and Newtown Square

In addition to the Restylane® family of fillers, Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa also offers fillers in the Juvederm® family, another line of hyaluronic acid-based injectables. These dermal fillers accomplish many of the same effects: filling in nasolabial folds and other facial lines, providing more youthful facial contours with cheek volumization, and softly plumping lips and minimizing vertical lip lines.

We also offer Belotero Balance® for fine facial lines and restoration of volume beneath the eyes, Radiesse® for volume loss of the face and hands, and Sculptra® for complete facial volumization via new collagen production.

Dermal fillers can be combined with each other and with other treatments, to create what is known as a “liquid facelift,” so named because it rejuvenates the entire face without the need for surgery. The “liquid facelift,” commonly includes a neuromodulator, such as BOTOX®, which temporarily relaxes the facial muscles responsible for creating forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, upper lip lines, and neck bands.

Our experienced medical injectors work closely with each patient to identify their unwanted signs of aging and to discuss which treatment options will work best to address them. The end result is a custom-tailored plan designed to meet your unique needs and generate the most natural-looking results.
