Breast Revision

Revising Prior Surgical Results for Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and the Main Line

Just as the natural breast can change in shape and size over time, so can a reconstructed or previously operated on breast, leading patients to consider breast revision in the Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, and Philadelphia area. Patients who have received breast augmentation may experience a hardening of the implant (called capsular contracture), implant rupture, rippling, or sagging of their native breast on top of the implant. Women who have undergone breast reconstruction with implants or their own tissue may notice contour deformities, size discrepancies between their breasts, or just want to improve their result.

Breast revision options vary depending upon the breast surgery you have had in the past and what changes you are hoping to make. The surgery can involve changing the implant, changing the position of the implant, or replacing a ruptured implant. It can be adding a breast lift to a previous breast augmentation, or removing scar tissue that is painful and causes the breast to appear unnatural.

In the case of the reconstructed or post-lumpectomy breast, fat grafting can be used to smooth out the breast contour and fill in divots from the removal of breast tissue. Also, finishing touches can be put on reconstructions, such as nipple reconstruction or tattooing, scar revision, and lateral chest contouring.

Dr. Laura Gowen will assess your previous breast surgery while keeping your goals in mind to develop the appropriate surgical procedure for you.
