Brow Lift

Correcting Furrows and a Droopy Eyelid Look for Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and the Main Line

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, focuses on the area between your eyes and hairline. People choose to undergo a brow lift in the Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, and Philadelphia area to correct droopy eyelids and the furrowed brow expression that they feel makes them look tired or angry all the time. A brow lift can soften your look by:

  • Reducing the appearance of deep creases on the forehead
  • Smoothing out fine lines and crow’s feet
  • Tightening the region’s tissue and skin

Dr. Laura Gowen can assess your face and help devise a plan to move forward with a brow lift or other, similar options, both surgical and non-surgical.

What Does a Brow Lift Involve?

Patients who choose a brow lift can expect to receive general anesthesia for the surgery, which will include Dr. Gowen making incisions in the scalp to access the muscle and soft tissue causing the droopy, furrowed brow. Next she will remove loose, redundant skin after the rest is pulled tighter to eliminate wrinkles.

Depending on the patient, scope of work, and other factors, Dr. Gowen will evaluate and discuss with you what type of brow lift will meet your needs. She may perform an endoscopic brow lift, which uses several small incisions and a camera to access the forehead tissues. Additionally, a temporal brow lift involves two larger incisions in the temple area to excise excess tissue and tighten the lateral brow.

While there are some variations in recovery times depending on your specific procedure, brow lift surgery is frequently followed by two full days in dressing, then a week of recuperation, during which bruises fade and swelling subsides. Many patients return to work and the rest of their daily activities in about two weeks.

Options Beyond a Brow Lift in the Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, and Philadelphia Area

As a brow lift deals mostly with skin from the eyes up, patients who want to address fatty deposits or puffiness beneath their eyes, excess eyelid skin, and wrinkles around the eye should consider a blepharoplasty, which is also known as an eyelid lift. Like a brow lift, this can also change the look of a droopy eyelid.

Surgery performed lower on the face to lift sagging cheeks and tighten jowls is a facelift.

Finally, a non-surgical option for addressing forehead wrinkles is BOTOX®, which the FDA has approved for the temporary reduction of crow’s feet and glabellar lines.

Dr. Gowen can further discuss with you the differences between these procedures and treatments, including their benefits and how they can complement each other.
