Emsella®

Addressing Urinary Incontinence for Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, Philadelphia, and the Main Line

Pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and aging can all contribute to a weakened pelvic floor, which can be the source of many problems—including urinary incontinence. A solution at the Bryn Mawr, Newtown Square, and Philadelphia-area Cirillo Cosmetic Dermatology Spa comes in the form of EMSELLA®, a nonsurgical, noninvasive treatment that uses ground breaking new high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM®) technology to strengthen weakened pelvic floor muscles.

Most of the estimated 25 million U.S. residents dealing with urinary incontinence or bladder leakage are women who often have weakened pelvic floor muscles. Problems range from general lack of control to stress incontinence that causes urine leakage when jumping, jogging, and even sneezing, coughing, or laughing.

What Does EMSELLA® Do to Address Urinary Incontinence?

A strong pelvic floor is necessary for proper bladder control, which is why anything that weakens the muscles there can create a urinary incontinence problem. Without sufficient support, pelvic organs are unable to function properly.

EMSELLA® stimulates the pelvic floor with electromagnetic energy, strengthening the muscles to the point that they provide better, more consistent support for the bladder. Increased support means increased control and fewer accidents due to urinary incontinence.

How Does an EMSELLA® Treatment Work?

The Emsella® device is a chair, often referred to as the “Kegel Throne,” where women can sit comfortably, fully clothed, and be treated. It sends magnetic energy through clothing and skin to cause pelvic floor muscles to rapidly and repeatedly contract. The targeted muscles contract approximately 17,000 times during a 28-minute session. These supramaximal contractions strengthen the targeted muscles in the pelvic floor, thereby providing increased muscular support to this area.

A study revealed that 95 percent of the patients treated with Emsella® reported that they were satisfied and that their quality of life improved after six treatments. Ideal results occur after six sessions scheduled twice a week for three weeks.

EMSELLA® Results

Patients should expect no side effects that would keep them from their typical daily activities immediately after treatment.

A single treatment is enough to start positive changes, though ideal results will develop in the weeks following a set of scheduled sessions.

The efficacy of EMSELLA® has been confirmed by several peer-reviewed studies. The high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology behind the device is also used with EMSCULPT® to reduce fat and build muscle on the abdomen and to safely tone and lift the buttocks.
